Omar Abdullah is going to be sworn in as the first chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, which is a union territory. According to sources, the Congress party would back the government in Jammu and Kashmir but is unlikely to be included in the cabinet led by Omar Abdullah. This occurs prior to Omar Abdullah taking office as the union territory’s first chief minister. On Friday in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Congress chairman Tariq Hameed Karra presents vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Omar Abdullah with a letter of support for the formation of a government. At 11:30 a.m., the oath-taking ceremony and his council of ministers will take place at Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will deliver the oath to Omar Abdullah, who was the former state’s chief minister from 2009 to 2014 while serving in an NC-Congress alliance. Omar Abdullah submitted letters of support from 42 National Conference MLAs, four independents, six Congress lawmakers, and one CPI(M) delegate on October 11 in an attempt to establish a government. Omar Abdullah paid respects at the mausoleum of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, the founder of the National Conference, in Srinagar prior to taking the oath.

The 54-year-old paid floral respects to his grandfather’s grave at Hazratbal while dressed in a Pathani suit and coat. Before being sworn in as the first chief minister of the Jammu and Kashmir union territory, Omar Abdullah prayed at Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s mausoleum, according to the National Conference. At 11.30 am, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Abdullah and his cabinet.

Following Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Omar Abdullah’s grandfather, served as the region’s first prime minister before taking over as chief minister. Farooq Abdullah, his father, served as the former state’s chief minister three times. From 2009 to 2015, Omar, a former member of parliament, was the chief minister of what was then known as Jammu and Kashmir. From 2001 to 2002, he served as the Union minister of state for external affairs in the NDA government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
